A fantastic specimen of very rare garnet var. grossular with green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystals to 3mm are transparent and gem with grass-green cores which are result of chromium, and surrounded by water-clear colorless areas. The crystals have a rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization and glassy luster. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined a long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition - some outside edge contacts. On acrylic base.
Mesmerizing!
