A pretty specimen of corundum var. ruby on a white marble base from Jegdalek ruby deposit, Afghanistan. The crystal is 8mm and it has a rich fuchsia color. It is well terminated. The luster is good. It is translucent and it displays some gemminess. Ruby is strongly fluorescent in rich pink. Some pyrite is seen too. The white base gives a superb contrast.  In good condition – some contacts. On acrylic base.
