A fabulous specimen of very rare garnet var. grossular with green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystals to 4mm are gem with green cores which are a result of chromium and surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystals have a rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization, a strong luster and an irresistible contrast. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition – some micro nicks and outside edge contacts. On acrylic base.
Gorgeous phantom garnets!
