A marvelous and rare garnet var. grossular with grass green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystals to 1mm are gem with grass green cores which are result of chromium and surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystals have a sharp rhombic dodecahedral crystallization, glassy luster and irresistible contrast. Some minor black chromite inclusions are seen too. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition – some small contacts. On acrylic base.
Cool phantom garnets!
