An astounding specimen of gem garnet var. grossular crystals with green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystals have vivid green cores, which are result of chromium, surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystals to 4mm have rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization, good luster and irresistible contrast. Light apple-green diopside crystals add a nice accent. Green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine Garnets. This was mined decades ago - the mine is closed now. It displays beautifully on both sides. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition – some small outside edge contacts. On acrylic base.
Exceptional phantom garnets!
