A sculptural specimen of sphalerite crystals aesthetically decorated with twinned calcite from Elmwood mine, Tennessee, United States. The dominant 51mm calcite crystal forms an excellent focal point at the top. It has a sharp scalenohedral shape and it is doubly terminated. It is lustrous, colorless, translucent to transparent and nicely twinned. Very dark red-brown sphalerite crystals form the base. They are well shaped, highly lustrous and light reflective. They show a cool gemminess when backlit. In very good condition – some small nicks and back side contacts. On acrylic base.
Exquisite!
