A colorful specimen of rich blue to purple carletonite crystals decorated with calcite from this famous locality - Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada. The carletonite is one of the very rare mineral species unique for the type locality Mont Saint-Hilaire. It occurs only there and none has been found for many years. Crystals are not often seen and most of the pieces are just cleavages. This piece shows some crystallized faces and some contacts. The color varies from light purple to colorless and saturated royal blue. The carletonite crystals are gemmy. The calcite crystals are rich yellow. They grow in small cavities. For references see the 1990 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 21, # 4. Some contacts.
