A killer specimen of gem garnet var. grossular var. chromian from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The crystals to 13mm are very good size for green garnet. They are transparent and water clear with glassy lustrous faces. Some faces are more matt due to a partial, natural coating. The garnets have a bright green color due to chromium. The crystals are with sharp rhombic dodecahedral crystallization. A second generation of minor grossular crystals grows on some faces giving a sparkling appearance. Fine thumbnail from this closed mine. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition – some side contacts. On acrylic base.
Outstanding!
