A fabulous specimen of very rare garnet var. grossular with a grass-green phantom from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossular crystal is gem with a green core which is a result of chromium and surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystal has a rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization, glassy luster and irresistible contrast. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. One small damage at the tip. On acrylic base.
Gorgeous phantom garnet!
