A splendid specimen of rare garnet var. grossular crystals with green phantoms from the famous Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada. The grossulars are gem with green cores which are result of chromium and surrounded by transparent colorless areas. The crystals to 1 mm have a rhombic dodecahedral sharp crystallization, glassy luster and irresistible contrast. Small diopside needles densely cover the base. Some minor inclusions of black chromite are seen in the garnets. The green cored garnets are among the most unusual and rare Jeffrey mine garnets. This was mined a long time ago - the mine is closed now. For references see the 2013 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 44, # 4. In very good condition – some small contacts. On acrylic base.

Cool phantom garnets!
