A superb specimen of lazulite crystals decorating glassy wardite octahedrons from Rapid Creek - the famous phosphate deposits of Yukon, Canada. The lazulite-wardite combination is much rarer. Lazulite is a rare magnesium aluminum phosphate and some of the finest come from this locality. The lazulite crystals are sharp, lustrous, very well formed, monoclinic, deep indigo blue color, measuring up to 7mm. The wardite crystals are sharp, glassy lustrous, very well formed with a sharp octahedral habit. They have a light mint-green color. The crystals are gemmy. Small quartz crystals are seen too. The contrast is very strong. It displays on both sides. For references see the 1992 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 23, # 4. In very good condition – some contacts. On acrylic base.
Sumptuous lazulite-wardite combo!
