Unique specimen of Chalcopyrite pseudomorph after Sphalerite with epitaxial Pyrite from the famous Madan ore field, Bulgaria. The pseudomorph appears just on the half of the piece so the different replacement stages can be observed on the same specimen. The primary flat, pseudo tetrahedral Sphalerite crystals are seen on the left side. They are black, well shaped and sharp with good luster. Some striations are seen on the faces. The Sphalerite crystals have some partial yellow color because the pseudomorph started just on the surface. On the right part of the specimen are seen completely pseudomorphed Sphalerite crystals by yellow Chalcopyrite. Even pure Chalcopyrite this half has the original Sphalerite crystals shape. Above are seen several epitaxially orientated Pyrite cubes. Some Galena is present too. In very good condition – partial crack at the outside edge.
Exceptional connoisseur pseudomorph!
