Knappenwand is a world famous mineral locality for fine Epidote-Byssolite and this is a superb specimen. Very delicate clusters of dense, fibrous hair like Byssolite needles grow on a white Calcite base. Byssolite has pleasing green color and it is very sparkling. Epidotes have olive-green color and are transparent and gemmy. They are lustrous and strongly light reflective. For references The Mineralogical Record, vol. 17, pp 167-181.
